single-use-plastic waste is a problem

The takeaway and coffee you had last week, or that toothbrush you used when you were 5 - are still on the planet.

We live in an interconnected world and the single-use-plastic problem is affecting every facet of our life.

We produce around 380 million tonnes of plastic waste every year - nearly equivalent to the weight of the human population! And half of this plastic is designed to be used only once, then thrown away.

Only about 9% of all plastic waste ever produced has been recycled, 12% incinerated and the rest, accumulates in landfills, or the ocean. At this rate, scientists predict that we'll have more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050!

Similar to the current pandemic that has upended our daily lives, the single-use-plastic crisis is borderless - it reminds us of our interdependence with one another and our environment. And unfortunately, our inaction will lead to further harm to our people, communities and our planet.

But a simple switch to #happyhuman’s reusable and refillable system means we can start to rid our planet of the 45 billion single-use plastic waste that fill it annually!

Waterless cleaning care that champions refilling over recycling. Raising smiles and a cleaner planet for the generations to come.

The journey towards raising smiles

My journey to create a new kind of consumer company began from my love for scuba diving. My very first dive a decade ago was like uncovering a whole new planet – sea turtles, coral reefs and marine life of every imaginable colour. But over the years I have seen my favourite diving sites turned from beautiful paradises to plastic dumping grounds.

I started cutting down on my own single-use plastic consumption and contribute. But as a busy working professional living across Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore, it was challenging to find plastic-free alternatives when it comes to everyday essentials without compromising on accessibility, affordability and effectiveness.

That’s when I left my corporate career and started working with some of the best scientists and designers in Sydney and Melbourne to rethink our everyday products, to create a clean and attainable way forward to put an end to the single-use plastic problem.

At Happy Human, we believe that no action is too small. When we combine our little ripples, as a community, we make big waves. We hope you’ll join us and make #happyhuman headway!
